Royal Tunbridge Wells is an historic Spa Town set in the heart of the Kent countryside and yet just a short distance from London and the coast.
The town dates back to 1606, when a young nobleman, Dudley Lord North, accidentally discovered the Chalybeate Spring whilst riding through Waterdown Forest, originally sited where the Pantiles now stands. The spring waters were believed to have restorative powers and can still be sampled today.
The Pantiles are architecturally beautiful with many specialist shops and tearooms where you can relax in elegant surroundings. The Corn Exchange on the Lower Walk was originally built as a theatre in the 18th Century and the whole area is steeped in history.
Tunbridge Wells has a modern shopping centre, Royal Victoria Place, a vast covered arcade with a food hall, outdoor market, children’s crèche and car parking.
For the sports enthusiast there is a sports centre with swimming pool and fitness centre complex, indoor tennis and squash courts. There are several golf courses in the area open to visitors and for the cricket lover the Nevill Grounds hosts Kent County Cricket week in June each year.
There is also a Cinema complex with restaurants and a Bowlplex. We feel sure your visit to our beautiful and historic town will be a relaxing and memorable one.
